WORSHIP
Altar Servers (5th Grade - Adult) - Assist the Priest at daily and Sunday liturgies. Training Sessions are held for new servers and to offer refresher for those already in the program.
Art & Environment Group – Creates a pleasing, appropriate environment within the church, designed to enrich and inspire the congregation, inviting their full participation in the liturgy and parish life in accordance with the changing liturgical seasons. The group researches and provides appropriate liturgical linen and decorations; seasonal changing of decorations; maintenance, cleaning and care of flowers and plants, linens, vestments and bulletin boards, as needed.
Bible Study Group – Involves weekly meetings for study of the readings of the Mass for the following Sundays. References are made to biblical commentaries, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, etc. Special seasonal seminars are occasionally offered – such as for Advent and Lent.
Choir (10:30) A four part choir that sings at Sunday 10:30 mass, Christmas, Easter, Confirmation, First Communion, and Weddings. The group also does caroling at malls and nursing homes. Open to adults and high school students. Rehearsals on Thursday evenings at 7:30 PM. No tryouts required.
Choir (Contemporary) Satuday 5:30 PM – Contemporary style group utilizing piano and other instruments with several vocalist.
Choir (Resurrection) – Sings at 8:30 AM Mass and other feast days as required. Sings for funeral and memorial services at resurrection cemetery. No rehearsals.
Church Musicians – People who are musically inclined and able to work with the choirs to provide musical accompaniment at masses as needed.
Eucharistic Adoration – Sign up individually or with one or more teams of adorers to spend an hour or more each week in prayerful/reflective adoration of the Eucharist. Hours are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week excluding Sunday mass times. This has become a very popular ministry.
Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist – Assist priests in the distribution of the Eucharist during the liturgies on a regular scheduled basis.
Extraordinary Minister of the Word (Lector) – Proclaim the Word of God during parish liturgies, on a regular basis.
Family Program Group – Meets Sunday mornings providing faith based programs including special activities and guest speakers for the entire family.
Liturgy Committee – Oversees the various functions that together make up liturgical celebrations.
Prayer Group – Meets weekly to experience the power of prayer.
RCIA Sponsor – RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) – Expand your own knowledge and faith while providing support to an adult on their journey to becoming a catholic.
St. Ann’s Altar Society – Seasonal Cleaning and Polishing of the Church. A group of dedicated individuals who are proud to see our wonderful Church shine at it’s best for those special occasions.
Ushers and Greeters – Welcoming and seating parishioners and guest before Sunday and Holiday masses as well as other parish functions as requested. Provide assistance to people as requested at masses. Organize collections and presentation of gifts at mass.
EDUCATION
After Kindergarten (After-K) Program – Created to provide AM kindergarteners of St Michael School the opportunity to stay on parish grounds until the end of the normal school day (2:45 PM). Lead by a teacher and teacher’s assistant, the program provides a safe, educational and Catholic Christian environment in which kindergarten children flourish. Parent volunteers are strongly encouraged.
Endowment Committee – A group of parishioners dedicated to promoting endowments established by the Parish and parish families. This is to insure the continued growth of the parish and the parish school. The committee is always looking for people with skill sets of marketing, promoting, and fundraising to help this cause.
Home and School Association – Assist and support the programs and operation of Saint Michael School in cooperation with the administration. Programs include scrip sales, uniform sale, Easter candy sale, Magazine sale, Flower sale, Fun day, and Secret Santa.
EDUCATION
Market Day Organization – Major fundraiser organized by Home and School Association. Assist in Monthly order distribution and other related planning and support.
Parish Library – Work helping parishioners check materials in and out of the parish library on Sundays after Mass requires only a weekend ever several months in a rotating schedule.
Parish School of Religion (PSR) Teacher – Teach religion to school age children on Wednesday evenings during the school year at St. Michael or Lewis Center PSR locations.
School Board – (elected) – Advisory board to define school policies and assist in planning, budget proposals, determination of tuition rates and advising the school principal.
Technology Committee – Provide guidance and recommendations to the school on applications of technology for both academic and administrative needs. Assist in troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment. Open to any parishioner that has an interest and skill set. Meets one evening per month – typically the 1st Tuesday of the month during the school year.
Vacation Bible School – Serve as an adult or teen volunteer for this annual popular children’s program. Program is usually held in the evenings in the early summer for a week. Assist with games, snacks, drama, crafts and Bible adventure.
YMCA After School Program – Volunteer at your local YMCA
Parish Evangelization Program – This group involves door-to-door parish neighborhood visitations, to offer membership to (or return to) St. Michael Church and the Catholic Faith. Winter phases of the group involve classes in Catholic apologetics (defending and explaining the Faith), and phone calling of minimally active or inactive parish members, for gentle exploration into reasons for declines in possible future increases in their personal faith activity.
SOCIAL CONCERNS
Ancient Order of Hibernians – Service organization for Catholic Men of Irish decent that provides support to Catholic education and the community, while promoting their Irish culture.
The Catholic Foundation - Doyle Memorial Fund for Children with Special Needs – Established to provide fiscal support for equipment and services, enabling children with learning challenges or physical/medical disabilities at attend and fully participate in their Catholic School of choice or Parish School of Religion program.
Knights of Columbus Council 11445 – Fraternal service organization for Catholic men of St. Michael and their families that support the church, the community and our families. It meets the 2nd and 4th Monday at 7:30 PM and also sponsors a K of C Family Mass each 3rd Sunday of the Month at 10:30 AM.
Material Assistance Providers (MAP) – Pickup furniture and household goods from St. Michael parishioners. Items are brought to a furniture bank/warehouse for distribution to those in need.
Respect Life Committee – This group is committed to consciousness-raising and service in a spiritual context, relative to God’s fundamental gift of human life. Activities include informing others of crucial life issues through parish displays, speaking engagements, and presentations; monthly Eucharistic Holy Hours, contributing to a prayerful presence at an area abortion clinic,
St. Vincent de Paul Society – Dedicated to helping those who find themselves in need. Their ministry extends beyond the parish boundaries and beyond any church affiliation. They collect and distribute food, clothing and other household items to food pantries and homeless shelters, and also aid victims of disasters.
PARISH LIFE
Athletic Association Committee – Parent organization for all St. Michael sports teams. Provides uniforms and equipment. Also recruits and approves coaches. Responsible for planning and administration of all sports and teams in conjunction with diocesan rules.
Athletic Coach - Coach boys and/or girls sports teams. Opportunities for boys and girls teams, grades 4-8. Sports include volleyball, football, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, cross-country, track, soccer and cheerleading.
Boy Scout Leader Troop 123 – Assist boys 11 through 17 years of age in learning how to manage their own projects while helping their community. Their positive form of expression is exhibited in camping, hiking and other healthful activities.
Buildings and Grounds Committee – Assist in the planning and implementing parish maintenance program. Coordinates building and repair projects in conjunction with the pastor. Oversees routine grounds maintenance.
Catholic War Veterans Group – Share military and life experiences with other catholic war veterans.
Cub Scout Leader Pack 123 – assist boys age 6 to 11 learning life long skills in many areas.
Cum Christo Group – Offers a weekend of reflection where you can concentrate on yourself and your relationship with God and your church.
Festival Planning Committee – Plans and oversees the annual St. Michael Labor Day Weekend Festival. This is the largest single fundraising event at St. Michael and involves the entire parish.
Finance Committee – Oversees the financial aspects of the parish, sets budgets, keeps track of parish income and assist the pastor in all major financial decisions. Meets the last Tuesday of the month at 7:30 PM.
Friendship Sunday Committee – Plan and assist monthly gatherings after Sunday services where parishioners are welcomed to have doughnuts and coffee while interacting with fellow parishioners.
Garden Group – Volunteer group that assist in the beautification of the parish grounds by maintaining the flowers and gardens. This is a great group to get the family involved in their parish.
Girl Scout Leader – Lead girls 6 through 18 providing opportunities to learn many skills and responsibilities. Lead individuals, troops in area wide camping, as well as indoor and outdoor fun.
Grief Support Group – Assist individuals and families coping with the loss of a loved one.
Helping Hands Group – Serves parishioners and their families during funeral gatherings and other special occasions. Provides meals, snacks or other refreshments according to the needs of the situation.
Ladies in Waiting – Assist with wedding rehearsals and weddings.
Marriage Preparation Group (Pre-Cana) – Preparation for Catholic Marriage
Mom’s Day Out – Provides young mothers a chance to get out and run errands, set-up appointments or just get away for a few hours Fridays 9:00AM to 11:30 AM.
Nursery Committee – Provides parents with toddlers the opportunity to attend mass on Sundays at 9 AM & 10:30 AM September through May while their children are enjoying that time with friends in the comfort of the Nursery.
Parish Council (elected) – Advisory board, committed to helping the pastor serve the spiritual, social, operational and educational needs of the parish. It also is concerned with providing adequate service opportunities for the parish and improving internal and external communications. The council has 14 members serving three-year terms on a rotational basis. It meets the third Wednesday of the month, September through June at 7:00 PM.
Stewardship Committee – Assist in planning and coordinating the annual stewardship campaign. Assist in educating parishioners of St. Michael about the importance of the life of stewardship through articles in the weekly bulletins and in the Parish newspaper “The Mike”. Much of this work can be done from home.
The Mike – Parish Newsletter providing better communications within the parish. Organizations and individuals are asked to submit information and articles to be shared with the greater parish family. Volunteer are needed to submit, screen and edit articles for the paper, take pictures and help with coordinating publication needs such as typesetting, labeling and delivery to the post office for bulk delivery.
Vocation Group – Desires to awaken a missionary eagerness in the youth of our community, reminding them of the importance of religious life.
New Parishioner Welcoming Committee – New group currently being formed to develop programs to make sure new parishioners are appropriately welcomed into our parish.
Young Adult Group – Fellowship of post high school men and women meeting for spiritual and faith based fun and activities.
Youth Group – Fellowship of high school boys and girls meeting for spiritual and faith based fun and activities.
